Is it time to go yet?
I'm so close to leaving this job. Really, I am, and it's starting to get to me. I technically gave notice back in November, but due to negotiations and other people leaving, not to mention the downfalls of being a nice person, I'm still here. The big excitement is that I start working only part-time as of next week! Part-time! Woohoo! That's so much better than quitting a job I dislike!
There are small things, little mistakes, really, that are starting to pop up in my work here. For example, a month or so ago, I accidentally answered the phone using a nickname that some of us use for the company, rather than the proper name. Fortunately they're similar enough that the person on the other end of the phone didn't notice, but a co-worker standing next to my desk cracked up.
Today I did it again. I answered the phone saying "Good afternoon, Rebecca sleeping." Ahem. Oops. Now it is true that I am tired. It is true that this morning I brought my lunch to my desk and put my book in the office fridge. And it is true that if I were at home I would likely be napping on the couch. But I have to stop doing these things! It is simply not professional. So from now on, I resolve to stay awake more and think before I open my mouth.
Come to think of it, those guidelines would probably be handy in a lot of other areas of my life, but let's start small, shall we?
